The Woman

I’m Sally Ann, I am 56 years old and have lived in the village of Hurst Green, East Sussex all of my life. Six years ago I opened a restaurant called Haydens in my home village. Six months later, in the middle of a full service, I collapsed with a sub-arachnoid brain haemorrhage. I was rushed to Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre where they operated for 6 hours to insert a titanium clip to close the blood vessel and saved my life. As a result I had my driving license taken away for 12 months. Incidentally Hurstwood Park is the only operating neurological hospital in South East England.

Sally & Richard

When Sally met World Superbike Champion James Toseland
The Mission & The Man
The mission is to complete a motorcycle trip around the Coast of Britain to raise funds towards a Surgical Navigation Unit for Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre. Richard Falder aged 54 will be accompanying me on the trip. He will riding a Honda CBF1000 and in charge of keeping me calm, making sure we take the correct route and picking up my bike after I’ve dropped it! Richard has been an advanced rider for over 10 years, so I am in safe hands. This sounded easy to me when Richard suggested it. We had originally planned to ride Lands End to John O’Groats, but after looking on the net to see how many motorcyclists had achieved it, well, the answer was ‘done to death’. Then we looked up the Coast of Britain and had problems finding more than a handful of motorcyclists that had completed it. So I decided it would be a good idea. I just said yes without really thinking about the mileage. Well, it’s about 900 miles Lands End to John O’Groats, but the Coast is about 3500 miles – gulp. But by the time I found out I had told so many people, I was committed! So at 11 o'clock on Sunday 29th June 2008 we will start our trip from Madeira Drive, Brighton. We hope to finish the trip 14 days later. To help me on my way please come and see me off, the more support I get the easier the trip will be. Tom Davis, a 50 year old Woodturner from Shrewsbury riding his own Honda CBF1000, will be accompanying me & Richard.

The Motorcycle

Although I believe I am up to doing it I wasn’t so sure about my old Bandit bike, so got in touch with Mike Doble and he very kindly loaned me a Honda CBF600. A key feature of this bike is the Just Fit Design - with adjustable handlebars, seat, brake lever and windscreen on the half faired versions. All this adjustment means that the bike can be perfectly set up for me which should lessen the discomfort of the long journey.
